One musical life.

Tom Doorley is an Irish flautist, composer, arranger, conductor and educator whose musical life moves between traditional performance, large-scale ensemble writing and education. A former member of Danú, he spent more than a decade touring and recording internationally, developing a performance language rooted in Irish traditional music while drawing on formal classical flute training.

His later work has increasingly explored the possibilities of traditional music in orchestral and narrative settings. As a composer, arranger and conductor with the National Folk Orchestra of Ireland, his projects have brought together traditional musicians, singers, spoken word and large ensembles to explore the relationship between music, people, memory and place.

Works including Oriel Wave, Dúchas na Dothra and By Lagan Stream reflect this interest in allowing landscape and community to shape musical form and storytelling.

Alongside performance and composition, Tom has maintained a long commitment to education. He teaches at second level and lectures in Irish Traditional Music at TU Dublin, and holds a Master’s in Education from Dublin City University.
